New London Singers - St Mark's Church, St Mark's Square, London

For more than 60 years, New London Singers have been a distinctive presence on London’s choral scene, known for their ambitious programming and highly accomplished singing.

Join them for Echoes, a programme of sacred Renaissance repertoire alongside later works that look back to and reimagine that tradition.

Featuring music by Victoria, Mouton, Aleotti, Assandra, Tallis and Byrd, alongside works by Roxanna Panufnik, Cassandra Miller and Ethel Smyth, Echoes traces how composers across five centuries have found new ways to set sacred text by drawing on and reshaping the music of the past.

At the heart of the concert is Josef Gabriel Rheinberger’s Mass in E-flat Major, Op. 109, one of the great works of the Romantic sacred repertoire.

Programme:

  • Tomás Luis de Victoria O quam gloriosum
  • Jean Mouton Nesciens Mater
  • Raffaella Aleotti Hodie nata est beata Maria
  • Caterina Assandra Salve regina
  • William Byrd Kyrie from Mass for Five Voices
  • Roxanna Panufnik Kyrie After Byrd
  • Thomas Tallis Lamentations of Jeremiah I
  • Cassandra Miller The City, Full of People
  • Ethel Smyth Komm, süsser Tod
  • Josef Gabriel Rheinberger Mass in E♭ Major, Op. 109
